Strahov Monastery

12th-century monastery with two spectacular baroque library halls

A Premonstratensian monastery founded in 1143 on the hilltop above the Malá Strana, and still an active religious community today. The attraction is the library — two spectacular baroque halls (the Theological and Philosophical) filled with leather-bound books and crowned with painted ceilings. You cannot walk into the halls (too valuable) but you can see them from their doorways. Combine with a look at the monastery's brewery, Klášterní Pivovar Strahov, for one of the best beer gardens in the city.
