An upturned telescope on top of Calton Hill, built between 1807 and 1815 to commemorate Admiral Nelson's victory and death at Trafalgar. Climb the spiral stairs for one of the best panoramas in the city — the Old Town to the south, the Forth to the north, and the unfinished National Monument (Edinburgh's "Disgrace") right next door. A time ball on top still drops every day at 1pm in time with the gun at the castle.
