One of the world's great botanic gardens, and free to enter. The 70-acre site at Inverleith has been cultivating plants since 1670 and now holds one of the most significant plant collections in Britain: a Scottish rock garden, a Chinese hillside, beech hedges, the national collection of rhododendrons, and a long herbaceous border at its best in June and July.
The Victorian glasshouses — including the famous Temperate Palm House — are currently closed for the Edinburgh Biomes restoration project, with reopening expected in the second half of 2026. The outdoor gardens remain fully open year-round. The café near the main entrance is decent. Allow two hours minimum.
