Summerhall is a contemporary arts and events complex in the former Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. The Edwardian building still has the sturdy institutional character of its old life, but its rooms now hold exhibitions, performances, studios, bars, and festival events.
It is most useful if you are interested in Edinburgh's current arts scene rather than only the Old Town monuments. During the Fringe it becomes one of the city's busiest independent venues; outside festival season, check the exhibition and event listings before crossing town.
