Le Quattro Fontane

Le Quattro Fontane are four late-Renaissance fountains set into the corners of a busy Roman crossroads. Each fountain shows a reclining figure: the rivers Tiber and Arno, the goddess Diana, and the goddess Juno.

They are easy to miss because traffic pushes straight through the intersection, but they reward a quick pause on the walk between the Quirinale, Barberini, and Santa Maria Maggiore. The fountains also give their name to nearby San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, one of Borromini's great small churches.
