The Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana is the most photographed building in EUR and one of the most arresting pieces of architecture in Italy. Six storeys of 216 identical arched windows are arranged in perfect symmetry across a white travertine cube, ringed by 28 Carrara marble statues of historical Italians. Mussolini commissioned it for the 1942 World's Fair that never happened; it now serves as the world headquarters of Fendi. The exterior and surrounding piazza are freely accessible at any time. Ground-floor exhibitions focused on Italian craftsmanship occasionally open to visitors — check the Fendi website before visiting if you want to see inside.
