Roma

Art-deco neighbourhood packed with restaurants and mezcalerías

A leafy grid of art-deco and beaux-arts apartment blocks south-west of the centre, hit hard by the 1985 earthquake and subsequently reborn as the city's most fashionable neighbourhood. Roma Norte in particular is dense with independent restaurants, mezcalerías, design shops, and small galleries. Many travellers base themselves here. Wander Avenida Álvaro Obregón and the streets around Plaza Río de Janeiro to get a feel for it.
