Museo Dolores Olmedo

Largest single collection of Rivera and Kahlo works, in Xochimilco

Address Av. México 5843, La Noria

Dolores Olmedo was a businesswoman, patron, and one-time companion of Diego Rivera; she preserved more than 140 of his works and 25 of Frida Kahlo's in this museum, set in a converted 16th-century hacienda in Xochimilco. Until its 2019 closure for restoration the collection was the most important single holding of both artists; check current status before going, as the museum has been moving its works on tour.

When open, the grounds are a draw in themselves — landscaped gardens with peacocks and Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican hairless dogs), and the hacienda buildings themselves. Combine with a boat trip on the Xochimilco canals just to the south.
