The Jumex Museum sits directly across Plaza Carso from the Soumaya, and the contrast between them is the point: where the Soumaya is a kitschy private collection in a shimmering tower, the Jumex is a David Chipperfield-designed travertine pavilion housing what is widely held to be the most significant collection of contemporary art in Latin America.
Eugenio López Alonso, heir to the Jumex fruit-juice fortune, built the collection from the 1990s onwards: Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, plus a strong line in Mexican contemporary artists. The hangs change two or three times a year. Closed Mondays; modest entry charge; the cafeteria on the ground floor is good.
