Zoológico de Chapultepec is Mexico City's best-known zoo, set inside Chapultepec Park and easy to combine with the park's museums. The axolotl centre is the most distinctive stop, with displays on the endangered amphibian native to the Valley of Mexico, while the tropical forest section focuses on animals from Mexico and Central America, including jaguars, spider monkeys, and tapirs.
Weekends can be very crowded. Food is not allowed inside, so plan the visit around meals rather than trying to bring a picnic.
