Ajusco National Park covers the high pine and oak forest around Mexico City's highest peak, rising to about 3,900 metres on the southern edge of the capital. It is a popular day trip for hiking, mountain air, and wide views back over the valley.
Access is by the Picacho-Ajusco road, which climbs south from the Periferico toward the mountain circuit. Conditions can change quickly in winter, when snow and ice sometimes close the road.
