Catedral de Iztapalapa is the main historic church of Iztapalapa, best known for its venerated image of Jesus and its link to the borough's huge Holy Week Passion Play. Pilgrims come here to pray, and during the Easter season the area becomes one of Mexico City's most intense religious gathering points.
Outside that season it is a quieter local church, but still a useful stop if you are exploring the eastern side of the city or trying to understand Iztapalapa beyond the headlines. Dress and behave as you would in any active church.
