Museo de América

Pre-Columbian art and Inca gold in the Moncloa district

The Museo de América (Avenida de los Reyes Católicos 6) sits in the Moncloa district near the Faro de Moncloa tower, from whose observation deck you can see most of the city. The museum is dedicated to pre-Columbian and colonial Latin American history, with an impressive collection that includes Inca gold, Mayan codices, quipu (knotted-rope records), and everyday objects from indigenous cultures across the Americas. Often overlooked by visitors focused on the Prado and Reina Sofía, it is well worth the trip.
