The neighbourhood's central square and its social hub — a tree-lined plaza ringed by pavement café terraces, busy from morning coffee through late-night cocktails. The square takes its name from the 19th-century composer Federico Chueca (who is also the source of the neighbourhood's name), whose statue stands at the centre.
The terraces fill with a mixed crowd: regulars from the neighbourhood, gay couples on dates, tourists, and the general Madrid habit of treating outdoor tables as a right rather than a luxury. During Madrid Pride (Orgullo, held in late June/early July), this square is the epicentre of street parties that spill across the whole neighbourhood and draw millions of visitors. Metro Chueca.
