A private foundation running one of the finest free exhibition programmes in Madrid, in a purpose-built building on Calle Castelló in the Salamanca neighbourhood. The Juan March Foundation mounts major exhibitions of modern and contemporary art — typically three or four per year — with a budget and curatorial ambition that rival the major public museums.
Past exhibitions have included comprehensive retrospectives of Miró, Kandinsky, Francis Bacon, and major thematic shows on 20th-century design and photography. The foundation also runs a concert series (chamber music, free, booking required) and has an excellent art bookshop. All free entry. Metro Velázquez or Goya.
