Plaza de la Villa

Plaza de la Villa is one of old Madrid's most atmospheric historic squares. In the Middle Ages, this area lay beside Calle Mayor, the city's main street, and the square later gathered civic and noble buildings around it.

The former city hall, the old Academy of Fine Arts, and the Archbishopric make the plaza a compact lesson in Madrid's older civic architecture. It is a short, worthwhile detour between Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace area.
