The German Church is a Neo-Gothic Lutheran church at the foot of Observatory Hill, close to the ferry approaches and the southern edge of central Helsinki. Built in 1864 for the city's German-speaking congregation, it is a modest but distinctive landmark on the walk between the harbour and the centre.
The church is worth a short stop for its pointed brick exterior, quiet setting, and occasional classical and liturgical concerts. It combines easily with the Design Museum, Observatory Hill, or the waterfront market area.
