Helsinki's open-air harbour market, at the foot of Senate Square where the ferries for Suomenlinna dock. Stalls sell fish, berries, vegetables, and the usual reindeer-pelt souvenirs; smaller food kiosks serve salmon soup, meatballs, and fried herring. The adjacent Vanha Kauppahalli (Old Market Hall, 1889) is a beautiful red-brick arcade of delis, bakeries, and cafes — worth a visit in its own right, especially in winter when the outdoor market thins out.
