City art collection in the Tennispalatsi building, strong on Tove Jansson murals

Helsinki's city art museum, on the upper floors of the Tennispalatsi (1937), the surviving functionalist tennis hall built for the cancelled 1940 Olympics. The permanent collection covers twentieth-century Finnish art, with a substantial Tove Jansson section — including the original murals she painted for the City Hall and the original Moomin oil paintings rarely seen elsewhere.

A rotating programme of temporary exhibitions occupies most of the building. The on-site Bio Rex cinema in the same building runs an arthouse programme. Closed Mondays.
