Antony Gormley's installation of 100 cast-iron figures spread along three kilometres of Crosby Beach, eight miles north of central Liverpool. All 100 are casts of Gormley's own body, all facing out to sea. The figures stand on a sloping foreshore, so at high tide many are partly or fully submerged, then re-emerge as the tide recedes.
Originally a temporary loan in 2005, the figures became permanent in 2007. The beach itself is a wide expanse of sand backed by dunes and is a popular dog-walking and kite-surfing spot. Reach it from central Liverpool by Merseyrail to Waterloo or Blundellsands & Crosby stations.
