A free museum in a converted Albert Dock warehouse that tells the story of Liverpool as a port — from the great age of sail through the transatlantic liners and the modern container industry. The Titanic and Lusitania galleries are particularly strong, both ships being registered to the port of Liverpool. There is a substantial Cunard collection too.
In the basement is the separately-curated International Slavery Museum, an unflinching account of Liverpool's role in the transatlantic slave trade, its consequences in the Americas, and the continuing legacies of racism today. Difficult and necessary viewing; allow time for it.
