Eleanor Rigby Statue

Bronze sculpture by Tommy Steele dedicated to the Beatles song

Address Stanley Street, Liverpool, L1 6AA

A life-sized bronze statue of the fictional Eleanor Rigby, the lonely heroine of the 1966 Beatles song, seated alone on a bench on Stanley Street near Mathew Street. The statue was sculpted by Tommy Steele — the British rock and roll singer — and donated by him to the city in 1982 for the symbolic price of half a sixpence (his thanks for what the Beatles had done for British music).

A small plaque dedicates the work to "all the lonely people." Pilgrims leave small mementoes — flowers, notes, occasionally tins of soup — on the bench beside her. A few minutes' walk from the Cavern Club.
