Liverpool's Roman Catholic cathedral, officially the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, is one of the most striking modern churches in Britain. Designed by Frederick Gibberd and completed in 1967, it is a circular concrete structure crowned by a lantern tower of stained glass. Locals call it "Paddy's Wigwam." It sits at the opposite end of Hope Street from the Anglican cathedral, and the walk between the two is one of Liverpool's finest.
