One of the most spectacular Georgian town halls in England, designed by John Wood the Elder of Bath and opened in 1754. The interior — by James Wyatt after a fire — is even finer than the outside, with an oval Ballroom, vast crystal chandeliers, and a Council Chamber lined with paintings of Liverpool merchants.
The building is still the city's official civic seat and is used for receptions and the Lord Mayor's parlour. Public tours run on selected days during the year; check ahead. Free; advance booking essential.
