The National Trust runs combined minibus tours to the two surviving Beatles childhood homes: Mendips, the comfortable semi-detached on Menlove Avenue where John Lennon was raised by his aunt Mimi, and 20 Forthlin Road, the council house where Paul McCartney grew up and where many early Beatles songs were written.
Both have been restored to their late-1950s appearance and the tours are run by knowledgeable guides. Tickets must be booked in advance — visitors are picked up at Albert Dock or Speke Hall. No photography inside. For Beatles fans, this is the single most evocative thing to do in the city.
