A small, walled garden tucked into the courtyard of the Bluecoat arts centre — one of the very few peaceful green spaces in the city centre. Free to enter during opening hours, with benches under flowering shrubs and a small café spilling onto the cobbles in summer.
Probably the best spot in central Liverpool to take a coffee and recover from shopping. The art exhibitions in the surrounding galleries are free to browse on the way through. Closes at dusk; check the Bluecoat website for opening hours.
