A three-tier octagonal glasshouse, 17 metres high, gifted to the city in 1896 by Henry Yates Thompson and restored to full glory in 2001 after decades of dereliction. Inside is a small collection of palms and tropical plants gathered round a central fountain; the space is also a working concert venue and event hall.
Around the outside, eight statues representing great botanists, navigators and explorers — including Captain Cook, Linnaeus and Mercator — survey the surrounding park. Entry is free during opening hours and the Palm House makes a fine target for a walk across Sefton Park.
