The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer is a late-19th-century church in Jerusalem's Old City, completed under Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1898. Its main draw for visitors is the bell tower: climb the 177 steps for a rare high view over the dense lanes, domes, and rooftops of the Old City.
The church also has archaeological remains below the building and a small museum, making it a useful stop for visitors interested in the layers of Christian, Roman, and Ottoman Jerusalem.
