The Tomb of Absalom is a striking ancient funerary monument in the Kidron Valley between the Old City and the Mount of Olives. Despite the traditional name, it dates to the Hasmonean period rather than to the biblical Absalom, and forms part of a cluster of impressive rock-cut and free-standing tombs.
It is easy to combine with the Garden of Gethsemane and the Mount of Olives viewpoints. The monument is best appreciated from the valley path, where its height and carved stonework are clearest.
