St Peter in Gallicantu

St Peter in Gallicantu stands on the eastern side of Mount Zion, overlooking the Kidron Valley. The church marks the traditional site of Peter's denial of Jesus and is built above ancient caves that some traditions associate with Jesus' imprisonment before the crucifixion.

The modern church has strong views toward the Old City and Mount of Olives, while the lower levels and excavated remains give the visit more substance than a quick photo stop. It fits naturally into a Mount Zion walk with Dormition Abbey and the nearby historic sites.
