Vivekananda Ashram

Historic Tamil cultural centre and venue in Brickfields, named after the Indian philosopher

The Vivekananda Ashram in Brickfields is a Tamil cultural institution established in 1904 — one of the oldest Indian community organisations in Malaysia. Named after the Hindu philosopher and social reformer Swami Vivekananda, it has operated as a community centre, cultural venue, and social welfare organisation for KL's Tamil community for over a century. The main hall hosts classical Indian music and dance performances, lectures, and community events.

The ashram building is a heritage structure that has been periodically renovated while retaining its original character. It's not a tourist sight in the conventional sense but offers a window into the Tamil cultural institutions that have sustained Brickfields' identity over more than a century of rapid change around it. Events are posted on notice boards outside; most are open to visitors.
