A modest but thoughtful museum tucked away on the campus of Universiti Malaya, founded in 1973 around the private collection of academic and collector Y. T. Chew. The galleries cover Chinese ceramics from the Han through the Qing, Southeast Asian textiles, Hindu and Buddhist statuary, and a strong selection of South Asian miniature paintings.
It is not on most visitors' itineraries — and that is its charm. The galleries are often empty, the air-conditioning works, and the labelling is in good English. About an hour is enough. Free admission, open 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday only. Take Grab; the museum is about a kilometre from the nearest LRT station.
