Zoo Negara sits on 45 hectares along Jalan Hulu Kelang, a welcome break from central KL's concrete and traffic. Around 400 species of mammals, reptiles, and birds are on show, with the emphasis on Southeast Asian wildlife. The Sumatran tigers and orangutans are the headline draws, and the gibbon enclosure is worth lingering at.
The Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium is on the grounds and included with admission. The zoo is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Getting there is easiest by Grab or taxi from the city centre, about 20 minutes depending on traffic.
