Convent Bukit Nanas

Historic colonial-era convent school with a forest reserve on Bukit Nanas hill

Convent Bukit Nanas is one of KL's oldest institutions — a Catholic girls' school established by the Infant Jesus Sisters in 1899 that still occupies its original colonial buildings on Bukit Nanas (Pineapple Hill), a small forested hill in central KL. The school is not open to casual visitors, but the adjacent Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve — a small urban jungle literally in the centre of the city — is freely accessible via a footpath from the Raja Chulan area.

The forest reserve is one of the oldest nature reserves in Malaysia and arguably the most urban: you can walk forest trails with monkeys in the canopy while seeing office towers through the gaps in the trees. The KL Tower is at the top. The entire hill is a ten-minute walk from Bukit Nanas or Dang Wangi monorail stations.
