KL City Gallery

Orientation museum in the 1899 Government Printing Office on Merdeka Square, with a large KL model

A small museum on the south side of Merdeka Square, housed in the 1899 former Government Printing Office. The headline exhibit is an enormous illuminated wooden scale model of central KL — every notable building picked out, the streets lit from below. Worth ten minutes for the orientation alone, especially if you arrive jet-lagged and want to understand the city's geography.

The rest of the museum is a quick run through KL's history, from tin-mining camp to global capital. The famous "I Love KL" sculpture stands directly outside and is the city's most-photographed selfie spot. The Arch coffee shop on the ground floor sells laser-cut wooden souvenirs of recognisable KL buildings. Free entry.
