A few blocks of traditional Malay village preserved in the middle of central KL, on a low rise north of Jalan Sultan Ismail. Wooden houses on stilts, tropical gardens, mosques, kampung-style restaurants, and a famously cheap Saturday night market that runs along Jalan Raja Muda Musa. The contrast with the surrounding glass towers — the Petronas Towers are visible from every street corner — is the point.
The neighbourhood is the place in central KL for the most traditional Malay food: nasi lemak antarabangsa, beef rendang, ayam percik. Kak Som Nasi Kerabu and Restoran Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa are local institutions, both open from 6 pm to 4 am. Get here by walking the Saloma Link footbridge from KLCC, by Kampung Baru LRT station, or by Grab.
