Lake Gardens Deer Park

Free-roaming sambar deer enclosure inside the Perdana Botanical Gardens, popular with families and children

The Deer Park in Perdana Botanical Gardens (Lake Gardens) is a fenced enclosure housing Sambar deer and axis deer in a near-natural setting — large enough that the animals aren't obviously confined, with shaded areas and a small stream. Entry is free with the standard gardens admission. Children find it the highlight of a Lake Gardens visit; adults appreciate the low-key, quiet atmosphere compared to the more commercially developed attractions nearby.

The park is adjacent to the main lake area and can be combined in a single circuit with the Hibiscus and Orchid gardens, taking about 90 minutes total. Early mornings are best — the deer are most active and visible before the heat sets in. Bring water; shade is limited outside the forested sections.
