Armenian Cathedral of S. Gevorg

The Armenian Cathedral of S. Gevorg is one of the old religious landmarks of Tbilisi, built in 1251 and still tied to the city's Armenian community. It has served as the seat of the Armenian Archbishop of Georgia, which makes it more than just another church in the old town.

The grave of Sayat-Nova, the great Caucasian bard, stands in front of the cathedral. It is an easy stop while walking between Abanotubani, the old lanes around Meidani, and the other churches and synagogues that show Tbilisi's mixed religious history.
