The Metekhi Bridge crosses the Mtkvari River between the old town and the Avlabari district and offers one of the best stationary views in Tbilisi: looking back west from the bridge, you see Metekhi Church on its cliff to the right, Narikala Fortress on the ridge above it, and the densely packed houses of old Kala in between. It is the classic postcard view of the old city.
The bridge is a working traffic bridge and not especially interesting in itself, but the viewpoints at each end — particularly the small plaza on the Avlabari side — are worth pausing at. The equestrian statue of Vakhtang Gorgasali in front of Metekhi Church is clearly visible from the bridge; the cliff setting of the church, with the river directly below, makes it one of the most dramatically sited buildings in Tbilisi.
