Open Air Museum of Ethnography

Hillside museum of traditional Georgian houses and regional life above Tbilisi

Tbilisi’s Open Air Museum of Ethnography spreads traditional houses, towers, wine cellars, and farm buildings across a hillside above the city. It is one of the best places near the capital to understand Georgia’s regional variety: mountain, lowland, western, eastern, and highland building traditions set side by side.

The site works best in good weather, when you can wander between buildings and look back toward Tbilisi. Pair it with Turtle Lake or the Vake area, and give it time; the museum is less about single masterpieces than about seeing how many Georgias fit inside one small country.
