The small square at the heart of Abanotubani — locally called the Meidani — is where the old town's social life concentrates in the evenings. The square is surrounded by the domed roofs of the bathhouses, a small waterfall flowing into a stone basin, the Orbeliani Baths' famous tiled facade, and several restaurants and cafes on the terraces above.
On warm evenings the square fills with a mix of tourists and locals; the atmosphere is genuinely lively without being overwhelming. It is one of the best places to start an evening in Tbilisi: have a beer or a glass of wine on a terrace, watch the bathhouse visitors come and go, and then decide where to eat. The Leghvtakhevi waterfall just behind the square is illuminated at night.
