The Church of St. Nicholas on Schepah stands on a site first used for a wooden church in the 17th century. The later stone church took its name from the nearby timber yards that supplied wood for palace buildings.
Its layered history, including 18th- and 19th-century additions, makes it a worthwhile minor stop for visitors already exploring this part of central Moscow.
