The house on Nikitsky Boulevard is where Nikolai Gogol spent his last years, and it is the only place in Moscow that preserves that connection. The museum underwent a thorough renovation in 2009, and the rooms are presented with a theatrical flair that suits their subject. The centrepiece is the fireplace where Gogol, in a fit of religious despair, burned the manuscript of the second part of Dead Souls just days before his death in 1852. You can also see the study where he worked and the bedroom where he died. The nearest metro is Arbatskaya.
