Vysokopetrovsky Monastery is one of central Moscow's older religious complexes, founded in the 14th century and later rebuilt by the Naryshkin family in their distinctive Baroque style. Its churches, gates, and courtyards sit only a short walk from the theatres and busy boulevards around Petrovka.
The monastery is quieter than the Kremlin cathedrals or Red Square, which is part of the appeal. Come for the layered architecture and the sense of an old sacred compound folded into the modern city.
