Izmaylovo Estate is a former royal retreat in eastern Moscow, set on an artificial island once used by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. The surviving court includes 17th-century gates, the Intercession Cathedral, a bridge tower, and later almshouse buildings, making it one of the city's better places to see pre-imperial Moscow away from the Kremlin.
The grounds are open to wander, and the tower sometimes hosts small exhibitions or concerts. It pairs well with a walk through Izmaylovo Park and gives a quieter counterpoint to the capital's central monuments.
