Pashkov House is the great Neoclassical mansion on the hill above the western wall of the Kremlin. Its colonnaded facades, raised setting, and central belvedere make it one of Moscow's most theatrical 18th-century buildings.
The house later held the Rumyantsev Museum, Moscow's first public museum, before its collections were dispersed and its books became part of the Lenin Library. Today the main pleasure is exterior: stand back from Mokhovaya Street and look at how deliberately the building frames itself against the Kremlin.
