Moscow Zoo is one of the city's classic family attractions and one of the oldest zoos in Europe, founded in 1864. It covers a large central site near Barrikadnaya and Krasnopresnenskaya, with thousands of animals across historic and newer enclosures.
It is best treated as a half-day visit, especially with children. Check hours before going, as ticket offices can close earlier than the grounds.
