Marble Arch was built in the 1820s as a grand entrance to Buckingham Palace, then moved to the northeast corner of Hyde Park in 1851 when the palace was expanded. Its isolated traffic-island setting is less graceful than the original plan, but the arch remains one of the best-known landmarks around Oxford Street and Hyde Park.
It is an easy short stop when walking between Mayfair, Marylebone, and Speakers' Corner.
