Museum of Brands

Nostalgic time-tunnel of consumer packaging from Victorian times to now

Tucked off Portobello Road near Golborne Road, the Museum of Brands tells the history of British consumer culture through the things people actually bought. Its "Time Tunnel" walks you from the Victorian era to the present through thousands of packets, tins, toys, magazines, and adverts — the everyday packaging that usually gets thrown away, here preserved decade by decade.

It is small, idiosyncratic, and quietly fascinating, especially for the jolt of recognition older visitors get on reaching their own childhood. There is a pleasant garden and café at the back. A neat, unexpected counterpoint to the antiques of Portobello a few streets away.
