The Ritzy, on Brixton Oval facing Windrush Square, is one of London's oldest surviving cinemas, opened in 1911 as the Electric Pavilion. Behind its handsome Edwardian façade it now runs as a multiscreen picture house mixing mainstream releases with independent, foreign-language, and documentary films, plus festivals and Q&A events.
There is a café-bar upstairs with live music some nights, and the building is a Brixton landmark and a frequent focus for local life and the occasional protest. It anchors the cultural corner of the neighbourhood alongside the library and the square. A reliable spot for a film, and a piece of Brixton history in its own right.
